Record Book and Interview Evaluations

All Gallatin County 4-H Members must participate in an interview evaluation with their record book to complete a project and enter exhibits in fair. Interview evaluations are fun and give youth the chance to share the knowledge they have learned.

Youth must schedule interview(s) online by visiting the Gallatin County 4-H Fair Information Page.

Record Books

Record books are required to be up to date and include:

  • My 4-H Year (One per member)
  • Project records: Animal or Non- Animal Project Journal (one per project)
  • Project Manual/Curriculum/Workbook for each project
  • Project & club leaders must sign your record book and project manuals/ curriculum manuals/workbooks prior to your fair interviews.
  • All 4-H Members participating in fair are required to turn in all Animal and Indoor project records and project workbooks to the Extension Office byJune 28, 2023, by 5:00 pm.
    • Youth may include photographs and write a 4-H story for their record books, but neither are required.

Required Interviews

Procedure for Livestock/Small Animal and Horse interviews:

  • Livestock/Small Animal and Horse Project Interviews will be on the Thursday and Friday prior to fair week. *NOTE: Dog project interviews will now be included on these dates as well.
  • Sign up for your interview time slot at http://www.msuextension.org/gallatin/4hfair.html
  • Interviews are scheduled through SignUp Genius. Be sure to schedule as soon as possible to avoid scheduling conflicts.
  • If you are enrolled in livestock/small animal and horse projects, you will need to schedule two separate interviews.
  • Bring updated record book and project manuals/curriculum manuals/workbooks to your interview.
    • Arrive a few minutes before your scheduled interview time.
    • Dress neat and clean.
    • Be prepared to talk about your 4-H record book, what you learned, and your overall 4-H experience.
    • Meet with the judge during your scheduled time.

 

Procedure for Indoor Project Interviews:

  • Indoor Project Interviews & Exhibit Judging will be conducted on the Monday of fair week.
  • Interviews will be scheduled through SignUp Genius. Be sure to schedule as soon as possible to avoid scheduling conflicts.
  • Bring your project exhibit, updated record book and project manuals/curriculum manuals/workbooks to your interview. Physical project exhibit and records will be evaluated during your interview with a judge.
  • If you are entering projects in different divisions, you will need to complete an interview in each project division.
    • Dress neat and clean.
    • Be prepared to talk about your project exhibit, 4-H record book, what you learned, and your overall 4-H experience.
    • Upon completion of your project interview, you will leave your exhibit to be displayed in the indoor building for the duration of the fair.
